Rare Exotic Camphor Burl Wood Body.
If your looking for a wood body for your Denon 103 or 103R you can find (what we consider way over priced wood bodies) However, if you want something more. Then look no further.
We have the only convertible wood bodies out there.
What do we mean by convertible? Our burl wood bodies can be used in two ways !
Open body like all you see on Ebay.
(Although we dont recommend an open body design, our sources in Japan wont either.)
Here's a few drawbacks to this design. if the wood body is a press fit design, You simply insert your very expensive cartridge inside the body and mount it. Bodies we've seen can allow the cartridge to simply fall our of the body.
The cartridge is exposed to the elements and vibrations which simply muddies this wonderful cartridge. (But if you like it, here you go...)
Wood needs to expand and contract with different climates.
Resonance control is lost due to how a wood body is made(Simply put there is none).
After talking with Denon of Japan, we came up with a better solution to a number of problems.
The cartridge is installed in the body and only the stylus is exposed....Like the OEM body.
Then WE went one step further and installed our resonance control pad, again recommended by Denon to control resonance.
Held in place by very thin double faced tape. We don't recommend gluing your cartridge in place. There are slight imperfections to the inside of the body. Which is a given to any wood body.
Makes no difference in the quality or sound. We tested many different exotic woods and there is a difference. Wood resonates at different frequencies some wood responds better than others.
We wanted wood that complimented the Denon 103 and 103R.
We believe, We found what we were listening for. Utilizing the most sophisticated test equipment there is.....Our Ears!
